News Release For Immediate Release Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005 Contact: Stephen Abbott 785-7796 Abbott Presented With GOP "Chairman's Award" Manchester Republican Committee Chairman Cliff Hurst presented the committee's first "Chairman's Award" to Stephen Abbott at the committee's annual meeting Wednesday, Jan. 12, to recognize his service to politics in the past year. A plaque was presented, signed by Hurst and New Hampshire Republican Committee Chairman Jayne Millerick. It reads: "We honor you as the first recipient of this award. The outstanding job you did as editor of the Manchester Voters Guide is commendable. Your many hours of hard work played a big part in the successful election for the city of Manchester. We also want to thank you for effectively communicating the message of the Manchester Republican Committee this year. You are an outstanding example of excellence in politics to your city and state." Abbott said he was honored to have received the award. "The city committee, under the leadership of Cliff Hurst, and the state committee under Jayne Millerick's leadership, has made important strides this year in healing the party, maintaining Republican majorities in the state. I was honored to play a small part in my city's success," he said. Abbott assisted the city committee throughout the year, writing news releases and taking photographs for events and giving occasional advice on political strategy to, and assisted in drafting statements for, Chairman Hurst. Abbott served as event coordinator for the annual Meet the Candidate's barbecue in July, and in October, edited the city's 16-page election guide of candidate profiles, which was distributed to over 40,000 homes. He was also involved in politics last year by coordinating the final weeks of the Charles Tarbell for Governor campaign and assisting various candidates for state representative.
